Brief History of the Holocaust
During the 1930s, the Nazi regime in Germany enforced anti-semitic laws and regulations nationwide. At the end of the decade, the German military officially initiated World War II. During the peak of the war, millions of European Jews were sent to concentration camps. Some of the most notorious facilities were located in Poland, including the Auschwitz complex. Some of the Jewish prisoners died of starvation, disease, exhaustion and other brutal living conditions. Most of the Jewish victims were murdered in gas chambers throughout the concentration camps. As WWII came to an end, most of the camps were liberated by the Soviet Union, United States of America and some other Allied powers. More than 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust, which is one of the worst genocides in human history.
Holocaust Education and Resources
Following WWII, plenty of Jewish organizations and institutions worldwide have launched Holocaust funds and other campaigns. Such entities hope to educate the entire world about the horrors of a genocide that killed millions of Jewish victims. A Holocaust center typically has digital and printed materials relating to the history of European Jews. You could learn about Jewish communities in Europe before, during and after the war. A Holocaust center may share genuine stories from survivors of concentration camps. You will learn about the ordeals that some of the victims experienced at these harsh facilities. Additionally, you will view original photos and videos that were captured by various militaries during the war.
